Summertime and the Livin is Easy
I have to say that I am getting pretty good at this "easy livin". Sam is working so hard to make life easy for me. Going to the grocery store, cooking, vacuuming, driving me places I need to go, fetching me this and fetching me that.....I just might have to stay in this hot boot just a little longer than I planned.
Yesterday Sam drove me over to our church so that I could help out with a book sale we were having. It got me out of the house for a little while and got to look over all of the books to pick any that I might want to purchase. Summer has finally arrived here and I sat outside at the book sale in 95 degree heat. (under a tent, with my water bottle and my shades on. forgot my hat though)
I just finished reading "The Help". It took me back in time to my childhood and teenage years. It is fiction, but just change names and maybe locations and the it could be fact. Started reading another book "Still Alice" along with books on scrapbooking, diets, cookbooks, money, and the list goes on and on.....I have a stack to read.
Sam is playing in a golf tournament today and I woke up to the sounds of two swim meets. One in the front of our house and one in the back. I was listening to the music that was playing and heard a few songs that was played at Will's Rock Concert.
One thing has changed since we went to swim meets. They don't use a gun to start the heats anymore. I did hear The Star Spangled Banner sung to begin on of the meets.
This is the week that I go back to the doctor. This may be the last week that I can say that it is "Easy Livin".

Scrapbooking
Since I have been confined to this "boot", I am trying to find ways to entertain myself at home. Seems, as if I mostly have been making messes all around the house. The more pictures and paper I pull out, the more confused I become. At this point, I will have to say that Scrapbooking is more a chore than a fun experience. I find myself hurrying through it so I can clean up the mess that I have made. The fun part, of course, is looking at pictures of my grandchildren. It also is the saddest part, as it makes me even more homesick for them.
My next project while sitting is to gather all of the recipes that I have collected and somehow get them organized. Another project that will probably drive me crazy.
I have lots of books to read, but can't seem to get interested in reading for some reason.
Oh well....back to the scrapbook jungle.

The familiar sounds of swim team practice
Having a boot on my foot is making me slow down a little and figure out things to do while sitting down. It's funny, when you are busy, you want to have that time to sit down and read, or write, scrapbook, crochet, or just watch TV, but when you have the time to do those things, you want to be busy. Anyway....I am trying to not waste too much time while having to sit. This morning while drinking coffee and eating cereal, I listened to the sounds outside. The sound that brought back special memories were sounds from the swimming pool for swim team practice. Practice starts early for them and I could hear them cheering each other on. I could just picture the children just dragging out of bed getting to the pool with hair uncombed, trying to wake up, not sure if they wanted to get in that cool water or not. Although I have never been a swimmer, I am so thankful that John, Jason and Sharon learned to swim and don't have a fear of water. Have some special memories of Swim Teams, some good and some not so good.

This thing is hot and I don't mean that it in a sexy way!
I can't believe I am still complaining about my foot. It has been six months and I am ready to get over this. I got the results of my MRI and am happy to report that I don't have to have surgery. Nothing was torn which is good. I do have to wear this very hot boot for three weeks. The doctor seems to think this will take care of all of the problems, if I stay off of my foot as much as possible. The results of the MRI were Plantar Fasciatis, heel spur, sprained ankle and a stress fracture in my heel.
I am still planning on having lunch with my friend, Sandy today. Guess shopping afterward is out though. I can't drive with the boot on, and it is a pain to take it off and on. This boot would have felt better in the winter to help keep me warm instead of the summer to help make me sweat more.

THE SANDS OF TIME
Just celebrated my 59th birthday and what a fitting place to be while celebrating. The Great Sand Dunes National Park. As Sam and I were traveling, I kept thinking about my years and what I have accomplished in those years. For some reason, I just kept feeling like I need to do more to make each day count. We couldn't decide if we really wanted to make another stop before we got home as we were tired from the drive, but Sam decided we should stop at the Great Sand Dunes National Park, since we might not pass that way again. What an adventure that was! The Sand Dunes are the tallest dunes in the United States and there is no beach. The dunes are at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and there is a creek, called Medano also at the base of those mountains. The dunes are formed by the interaction of wind and water over time. The dunes cover 30 square miles. Just think about how this began with a little sand blowing and in time forming a beautiful masterpiece.
I don't know what this year holds for me but am so thankful to have Sam by my side encouraging me every step of the way.
