Where did my children get that "bathroom humor"
After reading a post by Ashley, I was thinking about what Sam tells me often. My family really get into the bathroom humor. Guess that is true. I was just reading a post from girls from my high school. They are having a get-together in February at a restaurant in Garner called "Toot and Tell It". Growing up, that was one of my Dad's favorite places to go for a hot dog. (I think, back then, we could get five hot dogs for $1.00) Of course, with the bathroom humor in our family, we called it "Poot and Smell It" Guess Jason and Sharon come by their bathroom humor honestly. John has resisted through the years from that sort of humor, I think.
Sam and I went to the movies Saturday night. We saw True Grit. Guess the highlights from the movie were the theme song, which I loved while the orchestra was playing it: Leaning on the Everlasting Arms. The song at the end of the movie sung by a female singer sort of grows on you after a while. A phrase from the movie got my attention as I remember my Mom saying this from time to time. The phrase is: "Tight as Dicks Hat Band". I think I knew what my Mom's definition was of this phrase, but looked it up just to see...there are lots of opinions out there, but my Mom uses the phrase to mean that a person is tight with their money.
The snake scene finally caused me to look away from the screen. I think part of the movie was as disturbing as the snake scene in the Indiana Jones movie.
Sam and I enjoyed a beautiful weekend for being outside. The temperatures were mild and the sun was shining, mostly. We got out for some much needed long walks. I have a new pedometer, which isn't working properly, as I know we walked more steps than it configured.
It was a good day at church on Sunday and afterward settling down watching the winter x games and tennis. I have included a picture that was taken Sunday at church.

Whiter than the snow
After seeing the beautiful snowfall when the sun came up this morning, I kept thinking of the old hymn "Whiter Than Snow". I know the snow means trouble for many who have to get up and go to work and drive on slippery roads. Also, it creates problems with some people losing power, and just staying warm. And, I remember how confined you can feel being inside with little children and somehow, feeling all alone. I have to admit though, that I just love a beautiful snowfall. The snow makes everything so clean which reminds me of the scripture: Psalm 51: 7 and 10..Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Create in me a pure heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me."
It was a nice surprise to hear the doorbell ring this morning and Les and Elsie asked if we would like to go for a walk. Being in the single digits, we questioned whether we should or not, but even though it was cold, it was worth it. The sun was shining and there was no wind, so the extreme cold didn't feel that cold.

"Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" and other thoughts!
Can you see the snowflakes in the picture?
I can't explain it, but I have had that song in my head all day long! Why????? It's not Christmas anymore, and that wasn't really one of my favorite Christmas songs anyway. Maybe because it is snowing? Anyway...enough said about that.
I was thinking a lot lately about Grandmommie, (Sam's Mom) who is recovering from hip surgery due to a fall. We do share a love for bargains and just thinking back years ago, how she supplied us with so many of her bargains. I can look around today in our home and see some of the treasures she got for us. She was so much help as John, Jason & Sharon were growing up. She knew what they liked and if something they liked came in at the Sears Surplus store, they were in luck! (Star Wars stuff, Remote Control Stuff, Cabbage Patch, Barbee's, Hot Wheels, Transformers, etc...) Sharon's first cabbage patch doll when they were very difficult to find..(Thanks, to Grandmommie). Anyway, I know she misses getting out hunting for bargains. Feel better soon!
I took a few pictures of our beautiful snowfall. You have seen many pictures of snow since we have lived here and these are no different from any of the rest, but snow is beautiful when it's falling. So clean, so quiet, until the snow plow comes flying down the road...then so loud, and making our snow dirty.
On another note, our Sunday School lesson was on "humility". What do you think Humility means? Is there someone that you think about when you hear that word.
Oh, I forgot, I haven't eaten anything in the last thirty minutes. Guess I had better go and grab another handfull of M & M's.
