December 4, 2011

As many of you know that read this blog, I don't get into football in a big way, but we were invited for lunch at Carl and Sara Wade's house to watch the Broncos football game today along with more couples which turned out to be very exciting and lots of fun! Sam made the comment that it was lots more fun watching football over there than at home alone with me. I guess I have caught Tebow fever and was excited to see the game and especially excited that the Broncos won. Lunch was sooooo good too! (especially the Christmas goodies that Sara made, brownies, fudge, homemade cookies...)

Thanks Carl and Sara for inviting us.

I am getting prepared for a very cold week. This week reminds me of the week that Sharon and Mia came for a visit and was so cold and snowy. It's snowing as I write this for about the third time in a week and it will probably get down to 0 tonight. I went to the grocery story this afternoon and bought stuff so that I could make Christmas cookies and other delightful things I only make at Christmas time.

After writing this, I have thoughts of my childhood and my favorite foods we only had a Christmas time. I remember at my Grannys house at Christmas time, there were boxes in her "front room" of oranges, apples, raisens that were still attached to the vine, peanuts in the shell. I loved the chocolate covered cherries, and these candies that were pure sugar, white on the inside and chocolate on the outside and can't remember what they were called, but they were very yummy to me. Home made fudge which I have never been able to figure out how to make the old fashioned way, but settle for the fantasy fudge recipe on the marshmallow cream jar. Egg nog, which I still look forward to at Christmastime. At the grocery store today as I was shopping, the coffee shop was giving out samples of EggNog Latte's...guess where I headed. My Dad loved to have company and especially during the holiday's. Getting together with his family was always lots of fun and I remember how he and his brothers and sister would sit around and tell stories about their childhood and laugh.

I know I have rambled long enough and so very thankful for those memories and for our friends here.
